Mallard hen and five ducklings swimming in the Maiden Creek at the Greenawalt Bridge in Albany Township. These are the first wild ducks I have seen this year. I did see two white domestic ducks in the Schuylkill River by the State Street Bridge in Hamburg earlier in the day. The latter were probably escapees from Keystone Katy a facility in adjoining Tilden Township that kills and processes ducks. In addition to the occasional interbreeding among wild ducks, the presence of domestic ducks escaped into the wild often makes species identification of ducks encountered in this area problematic.
